TSAMBAGARAV & THE CENTRAL PEAKS

Text Box: Tsambagarav is only 3-4 hours by jeep from Olgii and is thus a good choice for climbers with limited time. The peak is easy to climb from almost any direction, though it is most approachable by vehicle on its SW flank. At 4208 meters, Tsambagarav (sometimes referred to as Tsast) is Mongolia’s 3rd highest summit. Round trip climb time from Olgii is about 24 hours, but with all the fermented mare’s milk and flame broiled goat head being served in your honor, you’ll probably want to stick around a while longer.
Text Box: Hatuu is only 45km (1 hour) from Olgii and can be done fairly easily as a long day hike, depending on how far up the Kara Sai valley your intrepid driver is willing to take you. Once your ride scrapes bottom it’s just a few miles to the start of the climb. At 3825 meters, Hatuu isn’t exactly the highest peak around, but the summit views of Tolbo lake and surrounding peaks is hard to beat.

WARNING: Winter climbing in Mongolia is characterized by extreme cold temperatures.  You, the climber, bear sole responsibility for any snotcicles incurred while climbing any of the peaks featured in this website!

Text Box: The third ascent of SAYIR (3943m) is still up for grabs! Located just a few hours drive from Olgii but rarely, if ever, climbed prior to 2005.
