Text Box: The western peaks are Mongolia’s most sought after summits and contain the greatest concentration of technical and mixed routes. However, there are also reasonably high trekking peaks such as Malchin in the Tavan Bogd group. Here superlatives abound and you will find the country’s largest glaciers, highest peak, and greatest concentration of snow leopards among other things.
In addition to the many climbing routes, the area abounds with possibilities for those more interested in trekking, horsepacking, and day hikes. There is a ger camp to stay in right beside the Potanini glacier, or pitch your own tent and spend a few days exploring.
